Brief Account of Colonial History
For further Information on the Helios System:Helios System
The thirteenth tribe (or first depending on your perspective) leaves Kobol, 1,600 years before the exodus of the other twelve. 1,600 years later, an issue between the "gods" and a selfish/jealous god leads to a massive cataclysm on Kobol, the 12 tribes are forced to abandon Kobol for their own survival and during their departure Athena, a god from Colonial religion, commits suicide in grief.
After many years of travelling, the refugees from Kobol on-board a colony ship stumbled upon a binary star system, that possessed a few habitable worlds, which were colonised one after the other by the colonists (It's interesting to note that, at that specific time, they may have refered to themselves as "Colonists from Kobol" and not as individual tribes, The texts of Pythia may be retrospective and referred to them as such to make it more understandable to the Colonials). Other barren worlds in the system were laboriously terraformed for settlement.
Due to the system having 12 habitable worlds, a decision was made upon their founding to name them after the 12 Zodiac signs / mythological aspects of Colonial history. It was from this period onwards that specific identities started to emerge per colony.
In other words, after many years, Humans of Kobol began to refer to themselves as Capricans, Sagittarons, Gemonese etc... This departure from regarding themselves as a single colonial force from Kobol, likely stems from individual beliefs, desires and ideologies (Sagittarons, Gemenese etc), who preferred to run their worlds individually based upon their own emerging cultures.
Inevitably this led to skirmishes and power struggles over many centuries, each colony vying for more power, resources and technologies, during these centuries other colonies like Aerelon, Gemenon and Sagittaron couldn't compete with the wealthy (if not more exploitive) colonies such as Caprica, Tauron and Picon.
Some 1,800 years after their exodus from Kobol, notable changes have occured. The flags of the colonies have changed (as you would expect) and no longer displaying the star pattern of a constellation, but now a graphical representation loosely based upon it. As well as the slight change in the Colonies names (for example Libra = Libris).
