The Imperial Atlantean Colony of Perseus (Pronounced: Per-sue-us ) is an Imperial island colony located off the western coast of Atlantica-Alba. It shares land and sea borders with the Democratic Kingdom of Royal Cytheria and the Dominean Viceroyal Territory of Absalon.
History
- 300 BC - Settlers from Cytheria land on what is now known as Perseus
- 200 BC - Cytherian settlers establish a separate region called Lellan
- 1360 AD - Traders from Europe bring the Black Plague killing over 20,000 on the island
- 1400 AD - Second outbreak of plague killing 10,000
- 1420 AD - Island largely abandoned by population
- 1530 AD - Population falls to 2600
- 1559 AD - An Atlantean ship carrying roughly 150 early explorers suffers engine failure while in earth orbit and crashes onto the island.
- 1610 AD - British naval exploration ship lands on Lellan
- 1615 AD - New port developed and trade begins with Britain and her colonies
- 1620 AD - New laws imposed by naval command
- 1625 AD - Native population revolt
- 1627 AD - Revolt ended after campaign by British forces
- 1630 AD - Revolt leaders flea to Cytheria the remaining are executed
- 1640 AD - British rule enforced and Lellan annexed as a colony
- 1641 AD - Lellan renamed Ben Madigan
- 1660 AD - British Navy establish a new naval base and fort
- 1700 AD - King George II sends Governor-General James McLarnon to govern Ben Madigan
- 1710 AD - Ben Madigan becomes primary Atlantic post and naval base of British fleet
- 1820 AD - Ben Madigan given Royal Charter and new Royal Residence built
- 1939 AD - British Naval Fleet called upon to defend colonies and help protect Atlantic trading routes after the United Kingdom declares war against the Nazi German Reich
- 1955 AD - Oil discovered off western coast
- 1959 AD - Oil refining and exports begin from Ben Madigan
- 1960 AD - Ben Madigan gains self-governance while remaining a dependant colony of the United Kingdom
November 1971 AD: During the development of a coal open cast mine, unrecognisable metal fragments and materials are discovered. The explosion from the mining sends mineral deposits into the atmosphere and are detected by the Earth 6 Probe.
January 1972 AD: The Imperial Atlantean Government and Earth System Research Council agree to send a scouting party to Ben Madigan and validate the findings of Earth 6. During the away mission, samples of population DNA are taken and examined on-board ISA Posideon. Findings confirm the population contain traces of Atlantean DNA and the lost descenders of the the reseach ship Legacy, lost over 413 years ago.
April 1972 AD: The Imperial Atlantean Government agree to official talks with the British Government and Ben Madigan Government. The secret talks talk place in the Ben Madigan capital and the Imperial Atlantean Empire discuss their findings. The case for Ben Madigan to become a new Atlantean Colony is suggested and rejected by the British Government, yet accepted by the governing council of Ben Madigan. Talks collapse.
July 1972 AD: Talks regarding the future of Ben Madigan are resumed. The Imperial Atlantean Empire agrees to compensate the United Kingdom while retaining many aspects of Ben Madigan social structures and a formal relationship with the United Kingdom. The British Government, in what was a difficult period, agree to the Atlantean Proposal. The government publicity announce that Ben Madigan will cut its sovereignty links with the United Kingdom.
February 1973 AD: The Imperial Atlantean government agree to a development package to assist Ben Magigan upgrade its entire national infrastructure, schools, hospitals and public services.
1982 AD - Ben Madigan naval forces provide discreet support to Britain as the Falklands War begins, and access to ports given
May 1990 AD: The people of Ben Madigan are informed of the secret talks of the early 1970's and a full public debate is held regarding the issue of Colonial Status. Representatives from the Imperial Atlantean Empire and Interstellar Alliance speak to the population and outline their plans for the island as well as detailing its new constitutional status and elevated position.
September 1990 AD: After a national referendum, the population vote in favour of becoming an Imperial Atlantean Colony. In the following weeks and months wholesale changes are implemented. The island and land territory are renamed Perseus and His Imperial Majesty Emperor Stormont III becomes the official Head of State. The existing governing council are maintained and elections are held to send two colonial representatives to the Imperial Colonial Congress in Atlantis City.
Late 1990's AD: Development of the island continues with the implementation of some Atlantean technology. Roads and motorways are upgraded to guided systems and public transport made automated. The entire electrical, utility and telecommunication infrastructure are re-developed and upgraded. Atlantean History is taught alongside Earth's History in Perseus schools and regular services to Atlantis commence.
2000: The Perseus Technology Treaty is brought into effect, limiting the use of highly sophisticated technology on the island that could potentially make the island a target for invasion or aggressive actions.
2007: Perseus becomes the official earth representative nation of the Imperial Atlantean Empire when it becomes a Full Member of the SCJU. The earth based forces of the Atlantean contribution to SARF are developed, constructed and based on Perseus in addition to several IASA Facilities including the Earth Monitoring HQ.
