About the SCJU

The SimCity Journal Union was founded in mid July 2005 and slowly gained in strength and size as it became ever increasingly more visible to city journalists who wanted to add further depth and inter-political and social progressive nations. The union itself is likened to a hybrid of EU and UN ideologies, it's purpose is to maintain and strengthen global peace through mutual co-operation, guided through principles laid out in it's constitution and charter. The Union is a multi-national organisation with many inner-treaties and dependent inter-organisations such as the single currency (ûnio), I.A.S.A, S.A.R.F and UnionAir. Importantly, the union is an outlet for story based CJ's and those authors that wish to create and participate in story arcs with others that transcend many union CJ's.

Additionally the union has progressively become more democratic with the founding of the "Senate" and Presidential elections held once a sim-year (see timescale) (2 months)* to help facilitate peace and progress the union in its endeavour to make the world a fairer and just place to live.

Laws and Core Values

Systems

SCJU Senate

The SCJU Senate is the highest law enactment and legislative body of the SCJU. It consists of all members within the Union.

The Senate is based upon a fair, equal open voting system - in which each member-state receives ONE vote and have to declare their vote in an open forum. Closed balloting is strictly prohibited.

SCJU Executive

The SCJU Executive is the primary administrative and executive arm of the SCJU. The SCJU Executive consists of the SCJU President and his/her Vice-President as well as the council of ministers (cabinet).

The SCJU Executive serves a two month term (together with the Presidential Term of Office). This term starts from the 15th of every 'even-numbered' month (Feb-Apr, Apr-Jun, Jun-Aug, Aug-Oct, Oct-Dec, Dec-Feb)

Supreme Court of the Union

The SCJU Supreme Court of the Union is the highest adjudicating and judiciary body within the union. This Court is presided over by the Minister of Justice. The court adjudicates civil, constitutional and criminal cases petitioned by member states.

SCJU Summits

The SCJU Summits are held periodically to propose, discuss and review policies. These gatherings are a chance for representatives of member states to meet in person, which usually allows for a smoother debate and faster resolution of existing issues. Most summits end in consensus over a number of topics which will be adressed in the appropriate ministries and the Senate. The last summit was held in Dominea and is considered to be one of the most succesful summits to date.

Full Member Nations

Full Member Nations are the core of the SCJU - each nation has an equal voice in the direction of the union.

Full Member Nations reserve the right to stand for the election to the presidency and can participate fully in any SCJU programme.

Due to the recent influx of members, the union now has an application procedure to become a member of the SCJU.

(Name followed by the 3-AC Code) This list is now sorted by a-z based upon the 3-AC code

Nations with Ambassadorial Representation

Ambassadors to the SCJU are nations (or CJs) that wish to have representation in the union but do not wish or are unable to be directly involved in the Union. These nations wish to participate in diplomacy and co-operation with the union.

The SCJU member states, under the aegis of the SCJU Senate, reserve the right to suspend or even expel any ambassador if that nation is considered a threat to the union.
