Brief Background

The Democratic Kingdom of Royal Cytheria is made up of two former nations, Cytheria and Semtania. After a roller coaster of diplomatic relations they eventually become the one sovereign nation we see today.

Royal Cytheria has 3 major cities and numerous surrounding towns, suburban developments and quaint villages. Leon-Owen is the nations Capital City and currently has a population of approximately 1.5 Million.

Royal Cytheria's currency is the Cytherian Crio and has a unique symbol = ζ .

Royal Cytheria is a constitutional monarchy headed by King Sileus Helhm I. Regular elections take place every 3 years for the various provinces around Royal Cytheria and these dictate the next Premier. The current Premier is the Rt. Hon Helena Morris of the Cytherian Democratic Party.

Royal Cytheria is an active member of the SimCity Journal Union and has close ties with many nations, most notably the Kingdom of Savoy, located in Western Europe. Examples of the incredibly close ties include the waiver of passports upon entering either nation and the Savoyard Krone (ϑ) and Cytherian Crio (ζ) being legal tender in both nations.

Royal Cytheria is a constitutional monarchy and his Majesty King Helhm I is the current Head of State.

The main parliament building is located in the nations political capital of Leon-Owen, however the eastern regions of Royal Cytheria, known as the Grand Principality of Semtania, are under the more direct governance of the Royal Sutton Assembly in the financial capital of Sutton.

Elections are held every 3 years in Royal Cytheria in which the political party with the largest majority has it's elected leader hold the office of Premier. The current premier is the Rt. Hon Ms Helena Morris who has recently come to office in May 2008. She replaced Rt. Hon Mr Nicholas Tilson who had served a total of 5 years in office.

The Royal Sutton Assembly has it's elections at the same time in which the majority party's elected leader represents the Grand Principality of Semtania in parliament in Leon-Owen.

Foreign Relations

Royal Cytheria is a founding member of the Asmara Protection Pact and is a full member of the SimCity Journal Union, NATO, Commonwealth of Nations and is an ambassador nation to other international organisations around the globe.

Royal Cytherian Military Forces

The Royal Cytherian military, officially called His Majesty's Military Forces, encompasses the Navy, Army, Air Force and the Crown Guards. Royal Cytheria has a modern military and has a notably advanced navy in which Royal Cytheria's small nuclear deterrent operates.

There is no national service in Royal Cytheria and recruitment figures for 2007 fell just short of expectations with overall recruitment being 15,697 approx.

Head of the military forces is HM King Sileus Helhm, with the Ministry for Security & Defense and the current serving Premier holding direct authority over the military. Only the king may declare war or peace and need to be approved by Royal Seal.

The main role of the military forces is to protect His Majesty's Realm and any wider interests Royal Cytheria may have. While Royal Cytheria is not a major military power on the world stage, there are forces currently stationed in Afghanistan, in a supporting role to the British forces, along with peace keeping missions in various nations around the globe. There is also a permanent deployment in the Grand Principality of Semtania. This has recently been increased due to violence in the region (October 2008).

Tourism

Tourism is an industry in Royal Cytheria that has grown enormously in recent years, especially in the Capital, Leon-Owen.

The nation receives some 6 million tourists (international) every year, primarily from Calderwood, the Kingdom of Savoy, the United Kingdom and Spain.

The recent upsurge in visitor numbers could be due to the recent implementation of the 'No Passports Required' programme which is an agreement between Calderwood, Royal Cytheria, Movia, Savoy and most recently Tyrol, whereby the only requirement for entry is a from of I.D, such as a driving license. The need of passports, visas or pre-approval is not required.

Royal Cytheria's tourist industry is principally "cultural" and "heritage" based, and many tourists are attracted to Leon-Owen especially because of its history, the Royal Family, national opera and museums.

After Leon-Owen, Sutton is the next biggest destination for tourists. Besides being the home of Royal Cytheria's financial sectors, Sutton is the capital of the Grand Principality of Semtania and draws in many visitors with Celtic ancestry. The Semtanian Temples are the main attraction for vistors, both national and international.
