Government Plan To Phase Out Domestic Air Travel

To help meet environmental pledges made in the January presidential election, the Minister for the environment today announced that by 2015, all domestic air travel in Paranor Island will be phased out. To give citizens an affordable alternative, the State will subsidize high speed rail travel until 2017 when it is hoped inter-city rail tickets will have similar prices to modern aviation firms. The initiative has been welcomed by envronmntalists, but has met fierce oppostion from some.

Leah Prepares For New Stadium As Another One Closes

As final preparations are made on Leah’s new Simlympic Stadium, the city’s National Stadium prepares to close its doors for good. The new Simlympic Stadium will have an 80,000 capacity stadium and should meet the major increase in demand the old one has seen in recent years. The design, inspired by a sea shell, has been widely welcomed as a beautiful design that will complement the stadiums setting in the new Simlympic Park, south of the Leah Government District.

Government Announces Recovery Programme

In a bid to jump start the ailing construction industry, the Government today announced a series of large infrastructure projects, some of which were previously rejected for being too costly. The £12billion plan was announced at a joint press conference with Minister of Finance James Clancy and Minister of Transport John Lawler. It includes several key transport projects including extending Leah's motorway tunnel network, at an estimated cost of £2.5billion.

The Republic of Paranor Island is a small island nation in the North Atlantic Ocean. It was once one of the world’s oldest and most powerful monarchies with the last ruler being King Donaill II of the House of Leah. It is now a presidential republic with Stewart Johnson as head of state.

Paranor Island has a mild Oceanic climate with weather rarely reaching extremes. Rainfall typically reaches about 800mm a year with 2,500mm being the highest amount ever recorded. Average temperature for the year is about 11°C. The highest ever recorded temperature was 37°C (1938) and the lowest was -14°C (1899).

Paranor Island has a very developed transport system, focused on both public and private forms of transport. The Department of Transport is in charge of all transport projects within the state and also operate all of the country's toll roads. The Island has a broad, high quality motorway system with links to all major cities and towns. Smaller towns are usually linked to the motorway system by dual-carriageways or high quality roads. Since 1990, the Department of Transport has spent over £80billion on public transport, with all major cities now possessing light rail systems, as well as heavy commuter rail. The Department of Transport also operates all public transport under it's executive arm, Paranor Transport.
