World War II

The Free Kingdom of Wales, still recovering from WWI was soon cast into the abyss of global warfare once again after Welsh Passenger ships were torpedoes mid-way through the war. Following the RMS Magellic's destruction in the English channel. The Free Kingdom of Wales was forced to declare war against Germany and its Axis powers. However, its economic position was more than precarious and so Prime Minister: Sir Lord Lloyd Hayes, organised a meeting at Westminster to discuss a course of action the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Wales could take together. Churchill realising that a more United Kingdom was needed, pressed Hayes to accept U.K sovereignty over Wales. This was unpalatable for the Hayes, who instead opted that in exchange for greater protection from the Nazi's the Kingdom would instead become a commonwealth realm. Churchill reluctantly agreed to his terms. In 1941, The Kindom of Wales officially became the Dominion of Wales.

While some celebrated this new Union with England, Scotland and Ireland, there was much backlash. Rioting erupted in several parts of the country and citizens felt that their independence had been robbed from them. Hayes receieved death threats and populace morale was critically low. It was only through a series of events, in which Englishmen and women sacrificed themselves to save Welsh cities and towns through the war, did age old prejudices between the Welsh and English subside.
