History and past presidents
In the beginning, the SCJU was run by its founder, Murray Rankin. Then, with some reforms brought about by Six Underground, the SCJU became a real democracy, with annual elections for President. "The Welshman" or, more simply, "Welshy", beat out the representitives of Giran de Cani and Chodov when the polls came out at 8-5-5. The first elections were a success. According to many, Underground brought about enormous improvements to the Union, and was elected to a second term. Due to the limitation that presidents are only allowed to run to consecutive terms, Underground's elected successor proved to be Slann of Dominea. Slann was a man with one goal: to bring structure to the SCJU, and he did just that. Creating such things as Senate Procedures Act. And then in early August, due to personal problems, the President officially stepped down and handed power over to his Vice-President, D. E. Cola, Whatcom's ambassador to the SCJU.
Latest elections
Pre-election
Campaigns looked promising, as two experienced leaders (Rankin and Underground) and a newer member (Charles D. I. Spy) went at it to lead the prestigious Union. No one really knew how the election would turn out, because all three candidates had fantastic promises that they were determined to carry out. Would people lean towards clearing out the clutter and beauracracy and choose Underground? Would people lean on the other side and aim to improve the Union by infusing vitality into project and fixing the little things by choosing Spy? Or would they choose a little of both mixed with experience and go for Rankin? These questions were being asked inside and outside the Assembly.
Election-time
Held from August 10th to 15th, some controversy arose in the elections as votes were counted by correspondance, by secret balloting, as well as publicly spoken. During this time, the beginnings of the Aleuntisyera crisis created more complications as the Acting President (Cola) decided whether to count the Aleuntisyeran vote even after the country withdrew its membership.
Results
In the end, Charles D. I. Spy beat out Six Underground by the narrowest margin possible - 1 vote. Rankin ended up getting 4 votes total, two less than Spy.
