The Zollernmark Kingdom, often referred to simply as Zollernmark or Mark, is a country situated in central Europe bordered by Germany, the Netherlands and the North Sea. It is the last remaining true monarchy on continental Europe, the constitution gives all power to the King and dejure there are no vital democratic structures. Though, the King is obliged to appoint Royal Representatives, which act as ministers and therefor the King expresses power to them, at least within their departments. Within the last years, the Zollernmark had to suffer rising international isolation due to more and more expressed criticism regarding its political system. Economically, the Mark is well known for their engineering as well as the class of insurance. The landscape is mostly flat, in parts even sea level, especially in the western parts of the country. Besides, it is well known for the big Bodir-Svelt-Delta, which is formed by the Markelbe River as well as the Zollernrhine River.

History

Geography

A map of the Mark
The Zollernmark is situated in a temperate zone, the climate is mostly influenced by the vicinity of the North Sea. The Zollernian graded shore line with its many small islands is widely known, just as the Bodir-Svelt-Delta in the south-west of the country is, which is a oddment of the last glacial period (a glacial valley). It also forms the basis for the economic core of the Mark, the Kronstadt metropolitan area. East of the Bodir-Svelt-Delta, a small range of terminal moraines were piled up that merge into the Gavarian Hills. But a by far higher hill chain can be found in the north-east of the Kingdom, the Revonnian Uplands, which reach the highest peak at 97m above sea level with the Groensberj. Apart from these two ridges, the Zollernmark is mostly just flat land.

Climate

Climate of Friedrichstadt
Many maritime influences form the Mark's climate, about 90% of the weather can be traced back to the sea. Mild winters and agreeable summers with quite high annual precipitation is the standard. Extrem weather conditions like drought or tornados or the like could not be dated yet, but in the course of the year heavy windstorms and/or thunderstorm sweep the country.

The Zollernian economy has been deregulated more and more during the last years, following the principe of the "Anglo-Saxon Capitalism". After WW II and with a lot help of the Marshall Plan, the Mark emerged as a highly industrialized country and is nowadays very much depending on high-tech industries and services. The secondary sector contributes 36%, the tertiary sector 60% to the Mark's GDP, the remaining 4% come from the agricultural sector. Since King Friedrich-Arnold III took office in 1983, the GDP quintupled. But in the last years, the Zollernian boom weakened heaviliy, which is due to the rising international isolation. While the economic growth had been around 3.7% in 2006, it was only 1.3 in 2007 and in 2008 it shall only be 0.5%. Besides, the global financial crisis did the rest to catapult the Mark into a recession. In 2004, full employment was reached for the first time in the Kingdom's history. The unemployment rate was down to 2,9% (ca. 280,000 unemployed sims in total). But due to the economic crises, it rose drastically up to 9,1% till Septembre 2008. In order to stabilise the fluctuating currency and economy, the Zollernschilling has been indexed to the Euro with the rate of exchange of 1.5 Schillings per Euro.
