The Hyperion Nebula is a reflection class gas cloud celestial object measuring some 2 light years across, that is illuminated by Helios Major and minor. The nebula dominates the night skies from all colonial worlds, particularly in the Northern Hemispheres for Helios Major worlds, and the Southern Hemisphere for Helios Minor Worlds.

Nebula Location and Size

The nebula is located approximately 0.8 light years from the centre of the Helios System, and acts as a natural barrier between the Cygnus System and the Helios System.

Nebula Mythology

In colonial history the Hyperion Nebula is named after the Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Sky) and is widely known as the Nebula of Light. In colonial mythology, the ancient colonials were mesmerised to find a semi-habitable star system existing next to such a beautiful celestial object. According to colonial scripture, specifically the early passages of Pythia:

"The caravans of the heavens were guided by a shining beacon of blue and violet. Its haze and beauty were increased ten-fold the closer the tribes came toward it, and there through the waters of the heavens, two golden eyes peered through toward them, yearning for the children of Zeus to brave the rocky silk mists and come forward towards the light."

The passage in Pythia led to the telling of Hyperion (Personified as the Nebula) and Theia (Personified as the Moon of Gemenon) becoming entangled in a love affair resulting in the birth of the twin brothers Helios (Helios Minor and Major).
