The First Atlantean Empire
The Planet of Atlantis was once home to over 80 independent nations all varied in size and power. The nation of Atlantis was the largest and most powerful, at its peak it governed a quarter of the planetary population by means of the First Atlantean Empire. During this age, Atlantean ideals, culture and its language was exported to all parts of the world. Its power was limited by the presence of the Galadorian Empire, for over 80 years these two imperial nations fought over and plundered the weaker nations of the planet. The earlier years are some of the darkest in the history of this world with widespread conflict and population subjection, many of the weaker nations were colonised and the structures and culture imposed on the people. Galador was the worst perpetrator of violence against ethnic populations in its bid to rival the power and size of Atlantis.
This conflict culminated in the Great Aleppo War. Aleppo was an Atlantean colony close to the Strait of Sochi and the Galadorian colony of Mesina-Arak, it was rich in mineral wealth and heavily protected by Atlantis. In the year 2036 Galador launched a surprise attack on the Aleppo capital of Sivas. Located close to the Aleppo border, an army of over 5000 marched toward the city assisted by heavy artillery, its protective city walls were severely weakened and the army entered the city and carried out a brutal campaign of murder and destruction. They stormed the colonial residence and murdered the Governor-General and his family before burning the mansion to the ground. The city barracks were destroyed and over 1000 Imperial Guards were killed in addition to over 30,000 Sivas residents.
This gross act was the starting point of a war that would last for over 25 years and lead to the death of 9 million people and the eventual collapse of both the Atlantean and Galadorian empires. Atlantis emerged as the victor, but the victor that inherited a planet in disarray, colonial uprising and economic devastation. Within 20 years of the ending of the war the empire of Atlantis has collapsed with a few colonial assets remaining under direct control and a further 10 under dominion status. The nation of Galdor was humiliated and defeated and its empire vanished, under the Aleppo Treaty it was banned from having a standing military exceeding that needed to protect its land within its homeland borders.
Atlantis and pre-existing nations formed the World Council in 2075. Its aim was to promote global co-operation and peace and try and prevent a repeat of the war that has devastated the planet. The World Council Accords stopped short of preventing nations acquiring colonial interests, something that would lead to the eventual collapse of the established world order.
The Golden Age and Prelude to War
After the founding of the World Council, the planet attained a level of peace not before seen. Minor and small scale conflicts continued but the major powers were at peace and began to prosper. Atlantis saw its economy recover and along with the nations of Sentainmus, Bayonne, Sakata, Namur and Arusha began to dominate the world markets leading economic growth and technological innovation. In 2085 they formed the Global Trade Partnership, GTP, and became know as the GTP 6. This new organisations greatly enhanced worldwide trade and lead rapid globalisation. Atlantis and Arusha dominated as the largest economies and their leading companies took advantage of the preferential regulations and rapidly expanded.
The nation of Galdor, remained in economic and political isolation until 2090, ending 29 years of exclusion. The nation began its recovery, still bound by some military restrictions and under the watchful gaze of Atlantis.
Sardaukar War and the Second Atlantean Empire
From the outset the war had a conclusion and that was an Atlantean Allied victory. Atlantis was by far of the most militarily powerful on the planet and a member of the strongest unions that existed. The beginning of the war was however hard on Atlantis, initial missile attacks devastated many Atlantean cities and the capital Queenstown suffered the worst. The missile attacks became less of a threat once the Royal Air Force has destroyed most of the launch facilities. The GTP collapsed after Sakata and Namur left in favour of neutrality, the remaining nations joined with Atlantis and another 20 members of the World Council to lead the fight against the Sardaukar Commonwealth, itself assisted by 5 other nations that joined with them and left the World Council.
