The Deltan Empire is the largest Empire on the planet of Alterra, and the wealthiest and most powerful. It's reach spreads all the way around the planet's four continents, Catalania, Gachia, and North and South Conemera. The planet is located in the Altosol System, which is approximately 2.67 parsecs from the Sol system, both of which are in the Orion Sector. Delta Valley is the motherland of this Empire, and has been the wealthiest territory on the planet since it was founded by British Colonists. It has always been a major influence on Alterra and on our Earth, until all the Wormholes between the two Earths closed up in 1893.

Natural Geography of the Motherland
Delta Valley itself is a huge nation, the largest on the continent of Catalania, which in itself is the largest on the planet.
Climate
The nation of Delta Valley can be split into five distinct climate zones from north to south, which are known as climatic reigons. There is no distinct climate applied to the whole of the motherland.
The Far North
Most of the Far North is over 2000m above sea level due to the prescence of the Siberissian Mountains, and so temperatures can be very cold. The two highest mountains in Delta Valley can be found here, Mt. Vena (3254m) and Mt. Anorta (3088m). Some of the most spectacular scenery in Delta Valey can be found here, and the far north is the most popular climatic reigon in Delta Valley after the far south. The largest settlement in this reigon is the city of St. Lanchester, which is a popular tourist hotspot, with the largest ski resort on the Catalanian continent. Five national parks are located in this reigon, all operated by the St. Lanchester Administration. Snow falls for two-thirds of the year in these parts. The Far North is the least populated part of Delta Valley.
The North
This is the smallest climatic reigon, a thin belt of boreal forest between the Heartland and the Siberissian Mountains. It is home to Delta Valley's largest logging and mining operations, and is the main source of the motherland's huge mining fortunes. However, Seventeen of Delta Valley's National Parks can be found here, as many visitors are drawn to the huge, tranquil pine forests, despite the large prescence of heavy industry. This area is quite hilly, with the highest mountain being a volcano, Mount Titania (1053m). Delta Valley's fifth largest city, Chesterford, can be found here, and has been the base of the northern forestry and mining operations since it was founded in 1706. This area experiences Mild Summers and severe winters, with moderate rainfall throughout the year.
The Heartland and Lake Delta
This reigon is home to about 40% of the country's population, with the largest settlements being Lake City, Venora, and Solitude Island City. Lake Delta is the largest lake in Alterra, and due to its prescence here the heartland has thick, lush forest, and a lot of open praries, with moderate rainfall throughout the year. Most of this reigon has a warm temperate climate, similar to many western European countries. The heartland is very flat, with no mountain ranges. Further south the climate becomes more Mediterranean, with arid grasslands and hot, dry summers, due to the proximity of the Catacomba Desert.
The South
This is the largest of the climatic reigons, and the one with the most unforgiving climate. All of the south is desert, and forms part of the Catacomba Desert, which runs the length of the continent. Temperatures exceed 40 Degrees for most of the year, with slightly lower temperatures during the winter. Temperatures can drop to nearly zero during the night. The area experiences about 40mm of rainfall a year, with some years having no rain at all. The motherland's second city can be found in the centre of this reigon, on the banks of the River Delta, the city of Red River. The desert hosts many motorsports, including F-1 racing, F-0 racing, and the Donneville Flats are famous with people trying to break speed records. People are also drawn to the reigon for its dramatic scenery, with the Delta Canyon sculpted over hundreds of millions of years carving some impressive rock formations.
The Far South
This climatic reigon is home to Delta City, the epicentre of the Deltan Empire, and the biggest city in Catalania. This reigon is hot and wet all year round, and makes up part of the largest area of rainforest on Alterra. The south coast is in this reigon, and violent storms batter these shores every Autumn. The Imperial Capital, Delta City, is located here, built on the vast Delta that makes the mouth of the River Delta. The city of Al Zandrua is also in this reigon, to the east. Before the introduction of SkyFarm technology in 2017, which is now how 99% of crop farming in the Empire is done now, there were once huge areas of cleared land for Sugar Cane and Bananas, which are still two of the most valuable exports of the motherland. Since then the rainforest has been replanted, and is now at its previous size.
Mountains and Volcanoes
Delta Valley is mostly flat, with mountain ranges only being in the far North, with smaller mountain groups scattered over the motherland, and countless volacnoes offshore. All of the mountains are fold mountains, with a hotspot being the cause of the offshore volcanic islands.

History
The 17th Century
British Discovery of Catalania
Delta Valley is not the first land of Alterra to be established by the British. New Cornwall, a remote island colony, was discovered in 1261. However, New Cornwall had long since been independent of Great Britian. The Continent of Catalania was left undiscovered by the British until 1681 when a wormhole from Dover on Earth to Solitude Island 2 miles off the mainland was travelled through by explorers. This wormhole was one of many that crossed a temporary depression in the space-time continuum from Earth to Alterra. These all dissapeared in 1893. When the continent was discovered, the British were well equipped for setting up a colony town.
Colonization
In the peak of summer in 1681 when the Briitsh arrived, they began cultivating the enormous reserves of sugar and bananas growing in the coastal jungles, just like they were with colonies in the Caribbean. the town of Soleanna was established, and was the first British colony on the continent. A church was set up and so was a port, and for the rest of the 17th century the town expanded, as demand for sugar and bananas grew from other nearby territories on the Catalanian continent.
The 18th Century
Founding of Delta City
As fast as Soleanna was expanding, it couldn't keep up with the growing population and demand for the two cash crops, sugar and bananas. The British Empire had already exhausted the output of these two commodities from the West Indies, and so a new town was founded a mile east of Soleanna in 1703. At first it was named Deltania, and after ten years the output of bananas doubled and sugar quadrupled. However it wasn't until 1745 that it was renamed Delta City, when the Delta City Cathedral was built. Delta City then became the capital of Delta Valley and has remained the capital of the motherland ever since.
Western and Eastern Expansion of Delta Valley
At the start of the 18th century Soleanna and Deltania were both very prosperous colony towns, and soon British explorers moved westward, crossing the River Delta and founding towns further west, such as Neptune, later renamed to Neptune City, which is now Delta Valley's 8th largest city. The expansion west stopped as many explorers were lost in the seemingly endless rainforest. Instead interests moved to the west of Soleanna. More explorers and settlers were sent out to the east, where the rainforest was less dense along the coast. One particular group consisted mostly of Arabian and Persian traders, who were interested in selling goods to the new British Colony, to help further their presence on Alterra. there they founded the city of Al Zandrua, the third largest city in the motherland today.
Joining the United Kingdom
In the March of 1721 the Declaration of Unification was signed, making the British colony The Dominion of Delta Valley, and the green cross was added to the Union Jack, however we don't see the green-crossed version in our world, as when the wormholes closed up in 1893, the British lost all connections with Delta Valley, until in 2071 when the colony city of Deltan Imperius was founded on Earth, so the green cross was removed. Delta Valley was nominated to be part of the UK due to its already immense wealth and importance to the Empire as the base of operations for British colonization of Alterra.
Northern Expansion of Delta Valley
In 1723 the Dominion began to expand northwards, and many towns were set up along the course of the River Delta, and by 1757 the explorers and settlers had already crossed the Catacomba Desert, and reached Lake Delta, and founded Lakeside, which became Lake City in 1834, and today it is the motherland's 4th largest city. When the number of settlers was down to only one group, they stopped when they reached a large plain, surrounded by forests for loggging. Chesterford was founded, and today the city provides 60% of Catalania's Pine and Spruce. Later on Deltacomba was founded in 1770, which later on became Red River, Delta Valley's second city. Many other cities in Delta Valley today were also founded on this mass expedition.
Independance from the British Empire
The union with the United Kingdom was not to last. Over the period of 31 years the Dominion's citizens were growing more and more unhappy with the way the British Empire operated, and was unhappy about the slave trade and the other atrocities of the Empire. A revolt started in January 1752, and the Imperial Soldiers were no match for the Resistance Groups, known as the Deltanian Prophets, thought to be the chosen ones by the locals to free the citizens from what was described as a terrible union with the United Kingdom. So on the 4th of March 1752 the conflict was brought to an end when the Treaty of Independance was signed, and today this day is an Imperial Holiday.
Rise of the 1st Royal Dynasty
Lord Duncan Saltash was elected and crowned the first King of Delta Valley, at the largest coronation of 18th century Alterra, on the 16th of March 1752. The original government was dissolved and the nation used a Constitutional Monarchy, and still does. The House of High Lords and the Deltan Congress were created, to serve as the upper and lower chambers of government respectively. King Duncan I married Lady Elizabeth of New Kent, and he ruled for 44 years, before his daughter, Princess Soleanna I, took the throne.
The Delta War
At the end of the 18th century, both Delta Valley and Vlakarekia, two very powerful nations at the time, both laid claim to the Catalan Islands, a large archipelago full of resources. However, there was a larger reason for this dispute. King Boris II, the current ruler of Russian-Founded Vlakarekia, was a great freind of King Duncan I, until he gave up the throne to his daughter, a move which angered the Vlakareki King who saw it as unfit to appoint a female ruler. the two nations lost their alliance and soon conflict broke out. The first move was made by the Vlakarekis, who sent a fleet to attack the Deltan Capital. After this a war broke out, which lasted into 1803, with a Deltan Victory. After the death of his father, Prince Dimitry I married Princess Soleanna I, who was then crowned King of Delta Valley. His brother was made King of Vlakarekia.
The 19th Century
Formation of the Alliance of Superior Nations (A.S.N.)
After the wormholes closed, many countries were in a state of disorganization due to being cut off from Earth and their founding territories. So in 1805 Delta Valley, Vlakarekia, New Poland, Capra, and Nigoku, which were the most powerful nations at the time, to form the main leading alliance of Alterra at the time, until the formation of the Ariconca Conventions in Creste in 1900. This new alliance ensured that the nations of Alterra continued to function and trade as normal despite loss of contact with Earth.
Third Expansion of Delta Valley
Delta Valley expanded once more, as the demand for more land for crops grew in the north, the nation widened, reaching its current size. This expansion was caused by the country's population exploding from 100,000,000 to 200,000,000 between 1850 and 1895. this expansion caused many problems, for example overcrowding in Delta City, Red River, and Lake City. This caused the creation of satellite towns such as Oakabee, Serpentine, Truckton, Gladoria, and Onett Ness. Many of these towns were swallowed up during the age of expansion in the late 20th century.
Closing of the Wormholes
The wormholes between Alterra and Earth crossed a gap of 2.47 parsecs across a depression in the space time continuum. There were some 45 wormholes crosssing this gap, but these began to dissapear in 1893. The last wormhole to close up was the one off the coast of Western Vlakarekia, which lead to the Kara Sea, off the north coast of what is today modern Russia, on the 13th of April 1893. This completely cut Alterra off from Earth, and it was now that Delta Valley and all the other nations began to develop their own cultures and traditions. Also, many legends were created after the wormholes dissapeared, some said that a few unlucky sailors were trapped in the "Space between Spaces" for all eternity.
The 20th Century
The Economic Supergrowth
In the 1900's Delta Valley struck Oil, in seemingly perfect timing with the full spread of the Automobile. This meant that the Oil and Motor industry soon exploded, and this new wealth from the Oil reserves and car production soon made the nation the wealthiest in Alterra, and has remained so ever since. The economic growth was further accelerated by a better standard of living and people having more money. Some companies born from the expansion are still around today, such as Patriot Motors and the Gasol Corporation. This made Delta Valley one of Alterra's superpowers.
The Alterra War
Lasting from 1931 to 1947, this was the longest and worst war the planet has ever had, and the only one to spread Worldwide. It started when the Hatcherbrutten Party, Scuteland's main ruling party at the time, was at war with New Poland and Creste in 1931 and 1932, in an attempt to capture the two nations in order to aid in conquering all of North Conemera for the base of the proposed Scute Empire. New Poland then went to Delta Valley for help, as the two nations were the leading nations of the A.S.N. So when Delta Valley joined the confict, it truly became a worldwide war. Soon the Cucumbian Empire and Nigoku agreed to join the Hatcherbrutten. This soon escalated into full scale global War, when Cucumbia had control of Nicha during Nicha's worst times, the Allies, which consisted of Delta Valley, Creste, New Poland, and later The Benado and Vlakarekia, targeted Cucumbia. Some of the bloodiest battles in Alterra's history have taken place on the jungle shores of Cucumbia. By 1945 only Scuteland was left, and was defeated two years later.
Rise of the 2nd Royal Dynasty
When Prince Astouris II died of tuberculosis in 1942 at the age of 44, this marked the end of a long dynasty, the dynasty that had ruled Delta Valley ever since it became independant of the UK. The law of Delta Valley states that the person who is second in command at the time must take the Monarch's place. This was Prime Minister Rupert Evans, who was crowned king after the two weeks of national mourning, on the 5th of May 1942. This marked the beginning of the second dynasty. It was King Rupert I that helped end the war against the Hatcherbrutten Menace.
Creation of the Deltan Empire and fall of the A.S.N.
The A.S.N. was dissolved in 1944 becuase since 1900 the Ariconca Conventions, led by the nation of Creste, was far more influential and an alliance that affected all nations of Alterra, unlike the A.S.N. which only applied to their members and nearby allies. Near the end of the Alterra War, many of the member countries, especially New Poland, were torn by war, and the A.S.N. lost all power and crumbled. However in the same year King Rupert I began reorganizing the government of Delta Valley, but gave up the throne to his son, Prince Lawrence I on account of terminal illness, who continued his work from 1945 onwards. After the Alterra War the Cucumbian Empire had completely crumbled, and the Ariconca Conventions allowed a peaceful takeover from Delta Valley, which were the first territories under the new Empire's control. Soon The Benado, The Benadi Republic, and Tabora agreed to join Delta Valley in 1951, and by 1960 half of Catalania agreed to join this new Empire, with the promise of peace, protection, prosperity, and the ability to still rule the country almost completely as normal, but under the watchful eye of the Empire.
The Age of Expansion
From 1961 to 1985, the Empire saw the largest expansion it has ever had, 21 more nations agreed to join the Deltan Empire, and all the Imperial Territories greatly prospered, as major cities exploded in size, with the newfound wealth from joining the Empire. Most of the expansion happened in Delta Valley - now reffered to as the motherland, as the big cities like Delta City and Red River quadrupled in size. The Age of Expansion saw the construction of what would be the tallest buildings on Alterra for another 40 years. This time is known as the Age of Prefabricationism, but eventually buildings returned to a normal height after the style became unpopular because of the lack of interior space, despite their great heights. Trade and tourism also expanded, and the Empire continued to expand financially.
the Global Depression
The 1990's saw the expansion of the Empire come to an end. Outside the Empire many countries began to lose money, which meant they imoporting expensive goods with the Empire, which saw the Empire's income drop sharply. Thankfully, even during the worst of the depression years, the economy and trade of the Empire was enough to keep it going, but soon the lack of wealth outside the empire began to show. After other wealthy countries began to fall into the depression, such as Fermion, Capra, Xantiar, and Creste, masses of immagrants began to flock into the still managing Empire. this created slum districts that still exist today, such as The Fringes in Delta City, "Grunge Street" in Red River, and Shivington on the island city of Stilwater.
The 21st Century
New Wealth and Technology
The Empire bounced back remarkably after the depression. The new millenium brought breakthrough technology, probably the most important of all being the invention of Hydrosphere Technology in 2006, which was clean, renewable technology that could be easily utilized for energy. The technology was also applied to vehicles, and average speeds of cars doubled, as it did for all vehicles. Every running vehicle in Alterra used Hydrospheres by 2020. This boom in technological discoveries meant that more money was invested into the imperial economy, further increasing the wealth of the Empire after the depression. New advances in medicine pushed people's life expectancy well past 100, and diseases like malaria have been eradicated completely. this attracted the last of the current Imperial territories to join the Empire, such as Triyall and Tresco. New territories were created, such as Richan Imperius in 2008, the Empire's technological Capital, and Rivia in 2020, as a new centre of education.
The Mellenium Projects
In the 21st Century, the Empire was devising a set of Melennium Projects, a set of projects to both benefit the Empire and all of Alterra. These projects included the new CATALINK Maglev network, which was built to link all the major cities of the Empire, and this also included the longest tunnel ever, to link Delta City with Port Catalan, which are seperated by over 2800 miles of ocean. Another project was a collection of artificial colonies, what were said to become miniature utopias in otherwise sparsely populated areas. Only two of the proposed ten were actually built, Richan Imperius and Rivia. Other projects also included the Octopolis and the Polaris Tower, both in Delta City.
The Inferno War
A terrorist group known as The Inferno slowly infiltrated the nation of Pantaniya and in 2030 they took complete control, and turned against the rest of the Empire. Although The Inferno were heavily outnumbered, they had taken over an important Military research centre, where new robotic battle machines were being developed. they used these new robots against the Empire. Their first move would shake Alterra forever. The Alterra District was an artificial archipelago created off the coast of Delta City as a symbol of World Peace and Unity and was almost completely destroyed in 2012 by the most powerful of the new battle robots, shortly after an attack which nearly destroyed the city of Stilwater. This sparked a war between The Inferno and the Deltan Empire that would last until 2065. Until near the end of the war, most of the fighting was done out at sea, with the odd attempt at claiming back parts of Pantaniya. This war saw the first use of Hydronuclear Weapons, the first ever weapons of mass destruction.
Contact with Alien life
February the 18th 2065 is perhaps the most memorable day in the lives of any living person on Alterra. at exactly 12pm, the Starship Psygnus, along with a fleet of some 100 other ships, touched down in Delta City, currently the most advanced place in the world. The Emperor was greeted by the King of the Drophyd Empire, and an alliance was formed soon after. The Emperor was told that Alterra was ready to be given "The Key to the Cosmos", and so the planet became the leading planet of the sector, and was given a senior chair in the Interstellar Alliance. This also saw the end of the Inferno War, as the Drophyds helped Delta Valley claim back Kailand in order to acheive world peace again. The Drophyds used The Starship Psygnus to construct New World Island, which was home to Alterra's first spaceport.
The 22nd Century
Reunion with Earth and founding of Deltan Imperius
Exactly 300 years after the last wormhole between Earth and Alterra closed up, on the 13th of April 2103, a fleet of Starships from the Deltan, Fermian, Xanti, and Capran Empires, and other independant nations set course for Earth, in order to reunite the two plants once more. The fleet landed in Britian, as all of the four Empire's motherlands had been founded or heavily influenced somewhat by the British Empire. The Deltans agreed to purchase the Isles of Scilly from the UK, and built the earth Colony of Deltan Imperius on them. This colony is now nearly complete, and the other three Empires are planning to build Earth-based colonies. Deltan Imperius is currently the only spaceport providing travel from Earth to Alterra.
Since then all of Alterra has prospered greatly from Earth and the galactic community, and has greatlly advanced. So far the 22nd century has been very prosperous, as the Empire continues to flourish.
Government and Politics
The Monarchy
The nation of Delta Valley and later on the Empire has always been ruled by a monarch. A King has always ruled the country, but if there are no Kings available, then a Queen will rule, and one of these will always rule, and if there are no heirs left, then the next person in command takes their place, no matter their education, age, or social class. Giving up the throne is frowned upon, unless it is on account of ill health, but after the end of the 1st dynasty this tradition seemed to lose importance.

The House of High Lords
This is the upper chamber of the Deltan Government, and reports to the Emperor on interior as well as colonial issues from the Congress and the House of Colonies respectively. It consists of 20 High Lords, and like the moanrch, they are born into it, but if required the High Lords can elect a new member, if one dies, resigns, etc. The house is led by the Prime Minister, who is second in command in the Empire, but acts as a ruler for the motherland, while the Emperor rules the rest of the Empire. the House of High Lords also acts as the Emperor's advisors.
The Congress
This is the more public chamber, with all 57 counties of the motherland having its own Congressperson to speak on behalf of the local people. The congress is the lower chamber of the motherland's government, and the middle chamber of the Imperial Government. The Head of Congress reports all affairs to the Prime Minister, who forwards it to the Emperor if required. Unlike the House of High Lords, the Congress only handles interior matters, and also unlike the upper chamber, the public gets to vote a new Congress every ten years, and everyone over 18 is allowed to vote. The current Congressional Party is the Deltan Conservatives Party.

National Elections
Every ten years an election takes place to decide which party will take over the Congress. Only citizens of the motherland can vote for the Congress, not residents from colonies or outside the Empire, even if they reside in Delta Valley. Everyone over 18 can vote as long as they have an Imperial Identity Card, which is used for many things in the Motherland and the rest of the Empire, let alone voting. The Winning Party takes power a week after they have been announced victors of the Election. There are no local elections, or different parties ruling different counties, only one national Congress.
The House of Colonies
Each colony, or territory of the Empire is appointed a viceroy, someone who rules and represents the territory for the Empire. They are the main link between colonial and imperial government, who report to the House of High Lords, who then report to the Emperor if necassary. There are quarterly meetings in the House of Colonies in Delta City, discussing current colonial progress and any issues to be solved. A new Chairman of the Colonies is elected every year, to lead the House and report to the House of High Lords.
Demographics and Society
Population
Alterra is not as densely populated as Earth is, therfore the planet has a lower population. About two-thirds of the planet's population resides in the Deltan Empire, which equals just over 3 billion. However, 2.5 billion of these people live in Nicha, which is extremely densely populated, and has 3.5 times more people than the next runner-up, Kailand, with about 700 million. The population of the Empire has began to increase sharply with the reconnection with Earth earlier on in the decade. However, it has already begun to slow down again. Currently the fastest growing areas are The Benado and surrounding areas, and Triyall.

Ethnicity
Nearly half of the Empire's Citizens are Nichan, due to the huge population of Nicha. However, most the remaining coutries in the Empire have a mostly caucasian population, due to their ancestors mainly being European colonists from the 900's to the 1700's, with a few exceptions. Despite this, there are still a huge mix of ethnic minorities, especially in the larger cities of the Empire.

The Empire is dedicated to providing services to its citizens that are unmatched anywhere else in Alterra.
Healthcare
The Empire leads the planet in medical care and research, and many diseases have been eradicated in the previous century, including Malaria, what was once a huge killer in South Conemera and parts of Tropical Catalania. All citizens are garunteed free healthcare, with state-of-the-art equipment used to treat patients, and with enough hospital space and very strict hygeine standards, outbreaks of disease in hospitals are non-exsistent. Though there have been concerns of alein diseases also affecting humans, so far there have been no cases of this happening.

Education
The Empire's educational facilities are unmatched, with every single citizen garunteed free, high-quality, full-time education, with additional adult education if required, and partial funding to private facilities of up to 25%. Many of Alterra's greatest educational centres are in the Empire, including Delta City and Punjar City. The Empire's two artificial colonies, Richan Imperius and Rivia, are also home to some of Alterra's best educational facilities.
Pre-School/Primary
An Imperial 3-12 plan established in 2034 now means that from an early age they are required to be taught the basics from a very early age, resulting in faster development and better preperation for secondary education. The program mainly focuses on maths and english, which are vital subjects in the Empire's education program, as it is for everywhere else on Alterra.
Grammar/Secondary
The Deltan Empire has a very varied selection of courses for students, and they enjoy the very best of Alterra's education, despite the shorter school hours of 9am-1pm. Sport is also encouraged in secondary schools, and there is a huge crowd for school sports. Most students will leave with up to eight A-C qualifications, but for those who fall behind there are also government-funded catch-up programs for them.
Higher Education
Many of Alterra's best colleges and universities are in the Empire, including the Royal University in Delta City, the Kings' College of Tresco, and many other fine facilities. All facilities are funded by the government, and private facilities receive partial funding. There are a wide range of courses for students to study, and they can be granted funds from the Empire, for accommodation, bills, etc. while staying at Imperial Colleges and Universities.
Law Enforcement
After many crimewaves in various Imperial Cities in the 20th and early 21st century, such as drug problems in Delta City in the 1940's, and terrorist threats in Punjar City in the 70's and 80's, and the gang violence of the 2010's in Stilwater, the Empire decided to take action. So in 2015, the Police Force was heavily updated, and since then, crime dropped. Today, the Imperial Police Force is very advanced, with vehicles and equipment mostly manufactured on other planets. The E.O.D. (Elite Operations Division) was created in 1982 in order to handle more serious crimes, and was also called for things like riot control. One of the Galaxy's 3 prisons with "unescapale" status; Feel-Good Penitentiary, is in Delta City.
Energy, Water, and Waste Management
All homes in the Empire have electricity, all of which is from Hydrospheres, a form of Hydrogen fusion created in 2006, with many applicable uses. Giant Hydrospheres are used to power settlements, using state-of-the-art facilities to monitor the Hydrospheres and manage their power output. All of the citizens of the Empire are garunteed, clean, safe water, no matter their location. Water is free, and all water is tested vigorously for impurities. Waste Management is extremely strict and thorough, after what happened with the lethal contamination of the former colony of Pantaniya, which was under the control of The Inferno for 35 years. Since 2068, the island has been quarantined and will remain so until 2368.
Culture
Languages
Aside from English being the Empire's official language, many other languages are also spoken as second languages in many colonies. The most common second languages are French, Dutch, Spanish, Portugese, Vlakareki, and Nichan. Many people consider Nichan as the Empire's second Official language, due to the very high percentage of speakers, but this is dismissed as Nicha is the only country which speaks this language. Apart from this, most languages are European due to who most of the territories were founded by.
Religion
Although, until recently, Alterra had been cut off from Earth for 300 years, many of the Religions remained in the community. Christianity was the most influential language in the past, with small populations of Islam in places, and Hinduism and Sikhism surviving in the tiny territory of Cucumbia. Paganism thrived in New Cornwall, however Judaism and Buddhism eventually faded away until recently. Many new religions have developed on Alterra, all are small cults that survive in scattered populations, but Pantanism thrives, especially in places like Triyall, which were close to Pantaniya, formerly the centre of the religion.
The Arts
The Empire boasts many cultural facilities, and all forms of art are heavily promoted. Many great centres of culture are in the Empire, including the Grand Plaza of Triyall, Delta City's Royal Opera House, and the now closed Temple of Pantaniya. Alterra has seen many great artist and playwrites, and many plays and music from Earth are still very popular in the Empire even after 300 years, including works by William Shakespeare. This is an enormous mix of Culture due to the diversity of the Imperial territories.
Lifestyle
The Empire is exceedingly wealthy, and so most of its inhabitants are well above the poverty line. In fact, poverty has been non-exsistent since the 2040's in the Empire, but there are still many people who live in poorer conditions, namely those who live in the worser-off parts of Nicha and Cucumbia, and many in The Benado. However, overall the citizens have unmatched living standards and a very leisure-based lifestyle.
Economy
The currency of the Empire is the Imperial Pound (£I), which is the planet's main currency. The Imperial Bank oversees the circulation of quadrillions of Pounds, and ensures that the economy is stable and continues to thrive, from their headquarters in Delta City. The Economy of the Empire is the powerhouse of Alterra's Global Economy.
Exports
The Motherland was once Alterra's top producer of Oil, but this is on the brink of running out, although it is now in very low demand since it is no longer used as fuel, and plastic is now recycled. Today, the Empire mainly promotes tourism, as many territories are tourist hotspots. Nicha and The Benado are still centres of heavy industry, which is fueling economical growth in these reigons. The Manufacturing Industry still dominates in the Motherland, and many Imperial territories like Kailand. Since the start of the previous century, the Computer Industry has thrived, with Richan Imperius being the Imperial Centre of science and technology. The Empire has begun exporting to other alein Empires, such as spacecraft manufactured by companies such as Yarkozoveda Industries.
Imports
The Empire imports very little, only things like certain foodstuffs that aren't grown in Imperial territories. Most of this small amount of Imports come from other planets, such as advanced vehicles and weapons for the Military Force, and high-tech gadgets and machinery for industrial and civillian use.
Transport
The Empire has developed a vast and complex transport network in an effort to make every corner it easily accesible. Citizens are garunteed affordable, effficient, comfortable transport.
Roads
The Empire has expanded the road network of every single terrritory to some extent, especially in some of the poorer territories. This has helped accelerate growth in the Imperial Territories. There are five classifications of road in the Empire:
- Freeway: These are long distance roads with no speed limit, and are used between far-reaching cities, or to completely bypass them. Drivers must allow the autodrive, which is connected up to the Imperial Transport Computer System (ITCS), to take over on these roads, until the driver stops or exits the Freeway. On Imperial Maps Freeways are marked as light green lines with thick black borders, and are abbreviated to "F", for example, the F1, which leads from Delta City to St. Lanchester.
- Highway: These are the major high-capacity routes in the Empire, used for long and short-distance travel, with a speed limit of 200mph. The driver is allowed to drive manually on these roads, although the autodrive can be used if preferred. On maps, highways are marked as "H", for example the H12 between Governer's Island and Stuart Island in Delta City, and are blue lines. Junctions are marked with numbers, and if required, letters as well.
- Primary route: These routes are usually used in town and city centres, where traffic density is high, or to link smaller settlements over long distances, where a highway is not needed or not nearby. They are marked with a "P", and like highways and freeways, have numbers. They are marked dark green on maps.
- Secondary Route: Similar to Primary Routes, but have a lower speed limit and usually lower capacity. Marked with an "S" on the map, they are the most common type of route in the Empire. They are marked as red lines on maps.
- Minor Road: Not marked with any abbreviation, these represent all other roads that don't fall under the other four categories. They have no abbreviation on maps, and are thin white lines with black borders. They are known by their local names.
Rail
From the latter half of the 21st century onwards, rail travel began to decline, in favour of maglev railway and space travel. Over time railways have been closed and removed, and today only the busiest lines remain, and those which have historic value. Freight transport is also done by maglev now, but on a completely different network, known as ATEX. Most of the existing rail lines have been converted to HyMag (Hybrid Maglev), which requires little work to the rails, and the wheels on trains replaced with mag-strips. Although this is faster than conventional rail, its speed is still a fraction of what true maglev trains can reach. Light Rail systems, such as Subway and El-Train networks still exist and use of these systems has not declined, and some systems have been converted to HyMag, many more systems are still to be converted to increase speed and efficiency.
Mass Transit
In 1994 the Empire opened a new Empire-wide transport service, known as the Imperial Transport Service (I.T.S.) which covered bus, rail, and light rail services. This meant that all citizens were garunteed regular transport, and even today the Mass Transit system is used by more people than ever before. In 2060 The I.T.S. expanded to include Maglev networks, and the rennovated HyMag networks which greatly expanded in the 2050's. Today it also covers Intraplanetary and Interplanetary travel in and out of the Empire, which includes Public Transport ships and Private vessels using Imperial Spacelanes and Hoverways.
Air Travel
Out of all the forms of transport that have suffered over time, Air Travel is the worst. Since the arrival of affordale Spaceships and Space Travel in the 2060's and 70's, Air Travel sharply declined, and by 2090 Air travel had fell by 99.8%, and now only the biggest cities have open airports, and they are usually airstrips. Most airports have been converted to Spaceports, while others have just been demolised. Only 12 Snipes 243's (The Alterra equivalent of a Jumbo Jet) remain in Alterra, only 4 are in service.
Sea Travel
Cargo is no longer carried across the seas by boat, but short-range spaceships instead. Most of Alterra's cargo-carrying ships have been scrapped, but fishing and research is still done with boats. Also, Ocean cruises are still very popular, as is passenger travel in the form of ferries. Most of the docks in the Empire have been demolished or put to a different use, but some are still used to cater for certain cargo-carrying spaceships used in the galaxy. Also, the Imperial Military still uses ships in combat, some from the Alterra War of the 1930's/40's are still used.
Space Travel
Space Travel to and from Alterra has increased rapidly since the planet was introduced to the Galactic Community in 2065. Today all the freight is carried by spaceship, and becuase of this, Alterra's economy has boosted immensly. Today all of Alterra's largest and most important cities have a spaceport, which has helped these cities and their respective nations to prosper from intergalactic trade. Since 2065, some spacecraft manufacturers have grown rapidly, like Velacosma and Yarkozoveda Industries. The largest spaceports today are in Delta City, Mawrusha, Richan Imperius, and Kyoto.
Military
The Empire boasts a military force that is unmatched in the Orion Sector, and has been expanded in recent years due to Weivvill Invasion threats, after an unprovoked attack in 2094. All parts of the Military are provided with the latest technology and ample funding.
Ground Forces
This is the largest part of the Imperial Military Force, and consists of 150 million personnel, 15 million unmanned vehicles, and 60 million manned vehicles. These range in size from unmanned surveillance drones to 20,000 tonne Gate Gaurdians, used to protect important military strongholds and occaisionally deployed into battle. About half of the manned vehicles consist of tanks, the most famous ones being the UP-47 LandMaster Tank, built in 2080, to be the most formidable tank ever built, with over 230,000 currently in active use. The ground forces also include hovercraft with a flight ceiling of less than 100 metres, and the T.A.C.U. (Tactical Aerial Combat Unit) used in the Inferno War, despite their ability to fly when attached to a specially built Aero Unit.
